Our minds tell us that if something has happened in one way all your life then it will continue to happen that way. This is a fallacy. You are extrapolating from the data that you have but if there are dramatic changes in the conditions – and you may not know that there has been changes – then your usual response to a situation may not work anymore.

Assuming that things will go the way they always have limits your ability to say "here I am now and this is the situation now – what direction could things take from here?
